   GROUNDING

This class is about stabilizing your energy levels to help you relax and reduce stress as well as learning to regain lost energy and how to enjoy life more. The main theme of the class is how to ground oneself, either actively or passively, to stabilize your energy level and/or compensate for imbalances. Once mastered, the methods I cover in the program will only take seconds to accomplish.

When is it important to ground?
Daily, before work or school, to be at your best, energized and ready for the day. Then again after work, to help wind down after the day, making a peaceful transition into the evening.
Before exams, speaking engagements, job interviews or prior to attending a hectic public place.
During emergencies or crisis type situations.
Whenever you need to be alert and at your best.

OVERVIEW

Grounding is like Mother Earth’s gift to us. It is a method (there are several) in which we connect ourselves to the Earth. Think of the process as being similar to grounding an electrical wire. The wire, like ourselves, is a channel for energy. Without a channel for excess energy to flow, we can become overloaded, like a live wire, instead of focused as in the case of an outlet you plug your T.V. into. Without grounding the currents first, your T.V would blow up. We as people will not “blow up” of course, but we can become ill or display symptoms of illness and/or possible fainting or breakdowns of other sorts.
It is helpful to think of the Earth as a bank, from which you can make a deposit or make a withdrawal. You can release energy into it through visualizations, breathing techniques and physical actions, when you have too much (i.e. anxiety, trouble sleeping, anger, irritability, high blood pressure). The energy is then recycled just as in composting. When you’re drained or too tired, you can make a withdrawal from its vibration to stabilize yourself for safety.
Grounding can also help you to “get your ground”, becoming confident and secure, preventing these imbalances from occurring in the first place. This is the goal we want to reach and it can be done by making grounding a part of your daily routine like bathing or brushing your teeth. As a matter of fact, you can do it in the tub. Try it twice a day for a month to 6 weeks and notice how your mood and life improves.

           TWO TYPES OF GROUNDING FOR BEGINNERS

Active and passive;

ACTIVE- based on focused energy movement. This is done by visualizing or perceiving a flow of light or sensation, moving from within your body to wherever you are sending it to or gathering it from (to/from the earth through hands, feet, etc). This can also be accompanied through the physical placement of hands/feet upon the earth or stones used for grounding.

PASSIVE- based on non-focused energy movement. This is a good method for those of you who have trouble visualizing or meditating. Practical passive ways of grounding can be as simple as taking a shower and perceiving all of your stresses going down the drain. If you’re a bath person you can still do the same by staying in the tub as the water drains out. You can magnify the result by adding seasalt to your routine. Eating red meat, carbohydrates or a small amount of salt is another easy way to ground (check with your physician about dietary concerns and exercise prior). Exercise is a great way of dumping excess energy and creating strength and stability in a healthy manner.
“Dumping” can be used by those comfortable with visualizing or meditating. It means to perceive energy left behind you, coming from your aura (energy field around the body) and stepping out of it, leaving unwanted excess energy behind you. This method is best used before bedtime, after an argument or after work or school, in an effort to leave the day behind.

Some stones can be worn or placed on the body to aid in grounding. Some of these include; smokey quartz, moonstone, hematite, obsidian, & black tourmaline . Keep in mind however that they rarely take the place of the other methods mentioned. Stones also need to be cleansed of energy imbalances periodically. This can be done by placing stones in seasalt or brown rice for 24 hours, placing them in a stream of clear spring water or smudging them with the smoke of neutralizing incense/herbs (i.e. sage, sweetgrass, cedar, frankincense, myrrh or copal).

If you don’t have a way of grounding, energy levels can sky rocket or plummet and you can also be more easily affected by the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual needs and conditions of others around you. Energy always travels from high to low and will ground itself eventually. Imbalances can produce stresses on the mind, body and spirit. This can lead to a weakened immune system and illnesses or result in difficulty sleeping, vertigo, stomach disorders, exhaustion and eventual collapse if the energy is not purposely channeled.
