I am very proud to be part of an organization dedicated to making worldwide communications a reality. I am also honored by the trust and confidence you have in me to elect me as your District Governor for 2009-2010. LGET Lorraine Mott, LGM Stephanie Siuda and I will be working closely with the District 65 dream team to make this the best year ever for you, the members of District 65.
At no other time in the history of our country has there been a greater need for effective communicators and leaders. The United States has long been the world leaders in many areas - economics, manufacturing, agriculture, and military just to name a few. I believe that as proud Americans, we must assert our position as world leaders in communications and leadership skills as well. I can think of no better way than Toastmasters International to achieve that goal. To do that we must strive to make District 65 and Toastmasters International the strongest ever, so more people can learn about, and reap the benefits of, Toastmasters education opportunities.

Therefore we must constantly bring in new members to strengthen existing clubs and build new clubs where none exists. In short - we must RECRUIT.

Second we must give all members, and in particular new members, all the same skills and opportunities that experienced Toastmasters gave to us. I am proud and grateful for the mentoring, coaching, and encouragement I have received from those who have been in this organization for many years before me. All of them have been eager to share with me the skills they have achieved, so we too must TRAIN those whom we RECRUIT.

Finally we must abolish the Toastmaster paradigm of 18 to 24 months that a new member remains in the organization. Many who join a Toastmasters club last about that long. Those who leave do so for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason, 68%, is due to member dissatisfaction. We cannot allow that to happen, ways need to be implemented to increase member satisfaction and keep members in Toastmasters. That is the final part of our District 65 theme RETAIN.

Make this our theme, our mantra, our battle cry RECRUIT TRAIN RETAIN.

Finally, some changes in the way we do business will be made in the district. Let me assure you none will be made without due diligence and planning by District leadership. Lorraine, Stephanie, and I will confer on a regular basis with the PRO, Division Governors, Secretary, Treasurer and Sergeant at Arms to stay in tune with each division and the district.

My best wishes and thanks to all who stepped up into a District leadership role and chose to be a part of the District 65 dream team.

Most of all, my best wishes to you, the members of District 65.

Dennis
